Alpine hires former Mercedes mainstay Mike Elliott as new CTO

Alpine have appointed former Mercedes technical chief Mike Elliott as their new chief technical officer, adding a seasoned figure to their leadership structure ahead of next week’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Elliott, praised by Toto Wolff as a “pillar” of Mercedes’ era of dominance, left the team in 2023 after an 11‑year stint that delivered eight consecutive constructors’ titles and seven drivers’ crowns. Alpine, currently sixth in the standings and chasing Racing Bulls, said Elliott will oversee all technical and engineering operations at the Enstone base.

The move marks a return to familiar ground for the Briton, who previously worked at Enstone as principal aerodynamicist from 2008 to 2012 before rising through the ranks at Mercedes. His arrival is intended to strengthen Alpine’s technical direction as the team seeks greater consistency and competitiveness. Elliott’s experience in building championship‑winning structures is viewed as a key asset for a squad aiming to close the gap to the front.
