Wyndham Clark claimed the BMW Championship with a dramatic late surge, birdieing the final three holes after surrendering a five‑shot lead to Rory McIlroy. The American, who won his second US Open earlier this summer, endured another tense finish at Bellerive Country Club, struggling for much of the round before finally finding momentum at the par‑three 16th. McIlroy’s bogey from two bunkers on 17 opened the door, and Clark sealed the win with a superb 17‑foot putt on the last for a closing 70 and a 17‑under total.
Clark’s advantage had evaporated quickly, with early bogeys and pressure from McIlroy and Gary Woodland tightening the leaderboard. McIlroy briefly tied for the lead on the 11th, but missed key birdie chances down the stretch. Patrick Cantlay finished second at 14‑under after a late surge, securing his place at the Tour Championship, while McIlroy settled for third at 13‑under.
