McIlroy settles into UK base ahead of Scottish and British Opens

Rory McIlroy says feeling “at home” in Wentworth should help his preparations for the Scottish Open and next week’s British Open. The six‑time major winner has been based there since mid‑May, choosing a UK stay rather than returning to his usual base in Florida. He will tee off at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick on Thursday, before heading to Royal Birkdale for the season’s final major.

McIlroy noted that Wentworth “is not home, but feels like home,” adding that he has built fond memories in the same house over recent years. He also highlighted his close relationship with Tommy Fleetwood’s family, joking about playing football with Fleetwood’s son Frankie.

McIlroy will feature in a headline group alongside Robert MacIntyre and Chris Gotterup, while world number one Scottie Scheffler begins his title defence later with Fleetwood and Matt Fitzpatrick. Scheffler stressed he is in Scotland to compete seriously, not merely prepare.
