Donald relieved as Rahm regains Ryder Cup eligibility for 2027

Luke Donald has expressed his satisfaction at Jon Rahm restoring his eligibility for the 2027 Ryder Cup, calling the resolution a major boost as Europe pursue a historic third consecutive triumph under his leadership. Speaking at Aronimink before the PGA Championship, Donald said he was pleased Rahm and the DP World Tour settled their dispute quickly after the Spaniard had described previous sanctions as extortion.

The captain insisted he foresees no team‑room friction, emphasising that Europe’s players remain united when representing the continent. Donald, victorious in 2023 and 2025, highlighted Rahm’s strong performances under his captaincy as a key asset. With LIV Golf expected to lose Saudi funding in August, he is delaying the announcement of qualification criteria until later in the summer. Donald admitted he did not expect a third captaincy but accepted after encouragement from senior players, determined to extend Europe’s dominance in the modern era.
