Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Otega Oweh will miss the entire 2026-27 season after rupturing his right Achilles tendon during a preseason game against the Indiana Pacers on October 13.
The franchise confirmed the following day that surgery had been successful. Dr. Martin O’Malley performed the procedure at New York’s Hospital for Special Surgery, with the Thunder’s medical staff present.
Selected 41st overall in the 2026 NBA Draft, Oweh joined Oklahoma City after developing into a consistent scorer during his college career. At Kentucky, he averaged 18.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists over 36 games in his final season.
The Thunder acquired his draft rights from Miami and subsequently signed him to a two-way contract. His absence complicates Oklahoma City’s efforts to strengthen roster depth following an offseason focused on salary management and several significant departures, including Luguentz Dort, Aaron Wiggins and Isaiah Joe.
