LIV Golf secures new lead investor for post‑PIF era

LIV Golf has reached an agreement with a new lead investor, a deal expected to be finalized in September as the league prepares for life without Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. CEO Scott O’Neil confirmed the development on Wednesday, noting that the investor has signed on and received board approval. The PIF, which invested more than $5 billion in LIV since 2022 and helped lure major champions from the PGA Tour, announced in April that further funding no longer aligned with its strategy.

O’Neil added that more than a dozen groups have expressed interest in minority stakes, forming a multi‑partner model aimed at long‑term stability. Under the new structure, players will become majority equity holders, and the schedule will shrink to 10 events split evenly between U.S. and international venues. LIV’s impact remains significant, with Adelaide setting an Australian attendance record this year at over 115,000 spectators.
