Thorbjornsen captures maiden PGA Tour win in Detroit

Michael Thorbjornsen claimed his first PGA Tour victory at the Rocket Classic, holing a dramatic 26‑foot right‑to‑left putt on the final green to finish at 18‑under. The 24‑year‑old American began Sunday four shots behind the leaders but surged with a superb seven‑under 63, outplaying Xander Schauffele and a packed chasing group. After reaching the turn two behind, Thorbjornsen ignited his round with birdies at 10, 12 and 14, then added a tap‑in at 15 before sealing the win with his stunning closing putt.

Schauffele, despite an early charge, left key chances short and settled for second at 16‑under. Overnight leader Davis Riley faltered late and finished third, while Rasmus Hojgaard took fourth. For Thorbjornsen, twice a runner‑up since turning pro in 2024, the victory marks the culmination of steady progress following standout years at Stanford and a near‑miss at the Travelers Championship as an amateur.
