Ghana goalkeeper Ati-Zigi backs Carlos Queiroz to stay as Ghana head coach

Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati‑Zigi has expressed his support for Carlos Queiroz to remain in charge of the Black Stars as the Portuguese coach’s short‑term contract approaches its July 31 expiry. Speaking to Sporty FM, the St. Gallen shot‑stopper called Queiroz “a great coach” and highlighted the positivity and strong environment he has built during his brief tenure. Ati‑Zigi added that keeping Queiroz would be a “good decision” if leadership agrees.

The 73‑year‑old’s future has become a major topic in Ghanaian football, with both the Ministry of Sports and the GFA signalling their desire to extend his deal. Sports Minister Kofi Adams endorsed a new two‑year contract, while President John Dramani Mahama urged officials to convince Queiroz to stay.

Under Queiroz, Ghana reached the World Cup round of 32, and Ati‑Zigi is expected to remain first‑choice as the team prepares for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, starting against Côte d’Ivoire in September.
