Baena completes historic Triple Crown: Euro, Olympic and World Cup glory

Alex Baena has achieved a landmark never before seen in European football, completing the prestigious Triple Crown by winning the Euro, the Olympic Games and the World Cup in consecutive tournaments. The Atlético Madrid midfielder, who lifted the Euro in 2024 and Olympic gold weeks later, added the final jewel to his collection on 19 July 2026 as Spain defeated Argentina in the World Cup final.

Baena’s rise has been rapid. A peripheral figure at Euro 2024, he became indispensable at the Olympics, starring in the final against France. Under Luis de la Fuente, he flourished again at the World Cup, adapting to Spain’s midfield‑driven style and earning a starting role on the left flank. His relentless work rate and maturity made him a key component of Spain’s title run.

Only Lionel Messi and Ángel Di María have matched the treble, but Baena is the first to achieve it within an extraordinary two‑year span.
