Wout Weghorst leaves Ajax to join Twente

Wout Weghorst has completed a transfer from Ajax to FC Twente, with both clubs confirming the move on Saturday. The 33‑year‑old, currently serving as a back‑up striker for the Netherlands at the World Cup, has signed a two‑year contract as he seeks regular minutes in the Eredivisie. Twente’s technical director Erik ten Hag, who previously brought Weghorst to Manchester United on loan, praised the forward’s professionalism and determination, calling the deal a major opportunity for the club.

Weghorst, capped 52 times, arrives with extensive experience across Europe, having played for Burnley, Wolfsburg, Hoffenheim and Besiktas in addition to Ajax. His physical presence and work rate have long made him a valuable squad option, even if he has yet to feature at this year’s World Cup finals. Twente hope his leadership and proven scoring ability can bolster their attack as they prepare for the upcoming season.
