Lewis Hamilton has cautioned that Ferrari’s power‑unit deficit is unlikely to disappear in 2026 despite optimism surrounding upcoming FIA‑approved updates. Throughout the season, both Ferrari drivers have repeatedly identified the SF‑26 engine as the car’s main weakness, and the Canadian Grand Prix marked another reminder of that limitation. With the ADUO update window opening after Montreal, Ferrari hopes to make meaningful progress, yet Hamilton believes the gap to Mercedes on the straights may remain a constant.
He praised the team’s work on the chassis, calling the car “fantastic”, but admitted that lacking top‑end speed makes racing difficult. Hamilton said Ferrari must focus on maximising corner performance to compensate, even if outright parity is unrealistic this year. He also expressed strong confidence in his engineering group, noting that the current setup finally allows him to feel fully comfortable. All indications suggest Carlo Santi will remain his race engineer for the rest of the campaign.
