Musonda retires after defining era for Zimbabwe Women

Zimbabwe captain Mary‑Anne Musonda has announced her retirement from all forms of cricket, ending a career that helped elevate the women’s game in the country. The thirty‑four‑year‑old last played for Zimbabwe at the 2024 T20 World Cup Qualifier and said her decision stemmed from timing, perspective and the physical demands of elite sport. Musonda, who debuted in 2019, featured in fifty‑eight T20Is and sixteen ODIs, scoring 1054 and 336 runs respectively, including Zimbabwe Women’s first ODI century against Ireland in 2021.

Appointed captain in 2018, she guided the team through its transition into international cricket, emphasising that the role meant carrying the hopes of a growing sport rather than simply chasing results. She highlighted mentoring younger players and shaping pathways as central to her legacy. Musonda said she hopes future generations benefit from the foundations laid during her tenure, believing that increased participation will define her true impact.
