All-round Matthews leads West Indies to consolation win

West Indies salvaged pride in the final ODI, defeating Sri Lanka by six wickets thanks to Captain Hayley Matthews' historic performance. After choosing to bat, the visitors posted 217/7, despite losing Chamari Athapaththu to Matthews' bowling. Harshitha Samarawickrama anchored the innings with 70, supported by Kavisha Dilhari’s unbeaten 45. Matthews and Karishma Ramharack claimed two wickets each.

Chasing, the Caribbean side stumbled early, falling to 12/2 as Malki Madara removed Qiana Joseph and Shermaine Campbelle. However, Matthews rescued the innings, compiling a brilliant 100 from 119 deliveries. She orchestrated a decisive 136-run alliance with Stafanie Taylor, who added a steady 38. Although the skipper departed in the 37th over, unbeaten cameos from Chinelle Henry and Deandra Dottin secured victory with four overs remaining. Matthews earned Player of the Match honors for her all-round excellence, while Samarawickrama received Player of the Series, though Sri Lanka had previously clinched their series win.
