Goiania has launched urgent resurfacing works to avoid a repeat of the chaotic Brazilian Grand Prix weekend. MotoGP returned to the Ayrton Senna circuit on 22 March for its first Brazilian round since 1989, but celebrations were overshadowed by severe asphalt failures. Heavy storms in the days before the event contributed to a dangerous hole forming on the main straight during Saturday sessions, forcing delays and emergency repairs.
Tensions escalated on Sunday when Race Direction reduced the race distance only minutes before the start, citing sections of tarmac that were breaking apart. Several riders were struck by stones dislodged from the surface, prompting widespread criticism of the venue’s readiness.
In response, the Goias government has begun a comprehensive 35‑day resurfacing project, with initial work starting on 6 April. According to the current plan, the circuit is expected to reopen around 10 May, ahead of future international commitments.
