Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup snub sparks new government inquiry

Bangladesh’s sports ministry will launch a new investigation to determine whether skipping the ICC T20 World Cup was the result of a diplomatic failure. The announcement comes just a day after the Bangladesh Cricket Board urged officials to dissolve the existing inquiry. The move is a setback for BCB leadership, particularly president Aminul Islam, who played a key role in withdrawing the team over security concerns, ultimately leading to Scotland replacing Bangladesh in the tournament.

State minister Aminul Haque said the committee will examine the reasons behind the snub, with a focus on potential shortcomings in sports diplomacy. He stressed the need to strengthen Bangladesh’s international sporting ties to avoid similar missteps.

Haque also confirmed a separate probe into alleged irregularities in the previous BCB election, noting that complaints from clubs and district representatives prompted the ministry to seek an impartial review before determining further action.
