Canada's head coach Marsch told Davies is ruled out for upcoming friendlies

Canada’s World Cup preparations have taken a significant hit after head coach Jesse Marsch confirmed that Alphonso Davies will miss the upcoming friendlies against Iceland and Tunisia. The defender strained his hamstring during Bayern Munich’s Champions League win over Atalanta on Tuesday, leaving the pitch visibly distressed. The setback comes only months after Davies returned from the ACL tear that sidelined him for most of 2025.

Canada, co‑hosts of the 2026 World Cup alongside the United States and Mexico, face Iceland on March 28 and Tunisia on April 1. Marsch told TSN Sports that Davies is expected to be out for two to three weeks and will remain in Munich to complete his recovery. The coach stressed the importance of avoiding further complications, noting the challenges of returning from long‑term injuries. Despite the disappointment, Marsch expressed confidence that Davies will regain full fitness in time for the crucial months ahead.
