Ireland head coach: 'We were preparing according to the T20 WC schedule'

Ireland head coach Heinrich Malan expressed relief that their T20 World Cup group remains unchanged, preserving their specific preparation plans. The Bangladesh Cricket Board had proposed swapping groups to avoid traveling to India due to security concerns, but the ICC and Ireland rejected the move. Consequently, Scotland replaced Bangladesh. Now, Ireland faces Group C opponents Sri Lanka, Australia, Zimbabwe, and Oman.

Speaking to press, Malan highlighted the team’s focus on adaptability for Sri Lankan conditions. He dismissed concerns regarding their historic recent loss to Italy in Dubai, viewing the series as valuable competitive practice. Despite a slow start, Malan expects improvement during upcoming matches against the UAE. He emphasized reliance on senior players like Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, Josh Little, and Paul Stirling to drive performance. Malan eagerly anticipates the opening clash against co-hosts Sri Lanka in Colombo on February 8, hoping to build early momentum before a sold-out crowd.
