Cricket Ireland has appointed Lorcan Tucker as the new permanent T20I captain, entrusting the 29‑year‑old wicketkeeper with leading a revamped squad into this week’s two‑match series against India in Belfast. Tucker, who has earned 159 caps since debuting in 2016, previously captained Ireland twice in a stand‑in role at the recent T20 World Cup. Reflecting on the honour, he spoke of responsibility, admiration for past leaders, and his desire to guide the next generation of Irish cricketers. Tucker emphasised a leadership style built on honesty, empathy, and leading by example, while acknowledging the challenge of balancing captaincy with his duties behind the stumps.
His first assignment comes against reigning T20 champions India, a test he welcomes as a benchmark for Ireland’s new cycle. The squad will be without Paul Stirling, Mark Adair, Josh Little, and Curtis Campher due to injuries, adding further weight to Tucker’s early leadership test.
