Button sheds light on the factors prompting his departure from competition

2009 Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button has officially retired from all motorsport competition following his final outing at the World Endurance Championship in Bahrain earlier this month. The 45-year-old Briton, who originally left F1 in 2017, finished 16th for Cadillac during the 8 Hours of Bahrain.

After a distinguished 17-year F1 career with Williams, BAR, Brawn GP, and McLaren, Button competed in diverse disciplines including Le Mans and Extreme E. Speaking ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Button explained that professional racing now demands absolute seriousness, admitting he no longer had sufficient time to do the necessary "homework" to compete against talented young drivers. He enjoyed his final stint with the Jota team but is ready to stop.

Button, currently a Williams ambassador, admitted seeing his children race would mean more than his title. He is now tipped to assume a full-time broadcasting role with Sky Sports F1.
