A possible path back in for the final three races has been blocked, dashing Jack Doohan's dreams of a Formula 1 return with Alpine before the end of 2025. After just six races in 2025, Doohan was fired by Alpine F1 manager Flavio Briatore. Franco Colapinto, whom Briatore hired in from Williams during the winter, took Doohan's place.
Having barely made his debut at the last minute in the 2024 season finale in Abu Dhabi, Colapinto's signing in December on a multi-year test and reserve deal immediately damaged Doohan and pushed him into his maiden Formula One season under great scrutiny and uncertainty regarding his place. Alpine’s decision to replace Jack Doohan with Franco Colapinto in May was seen as unfair and rushed. Though framed as an “evaluation,” Doohan was never reinstated despite Colapinto’s struggles and crashes. Flavio Briatore later admitted Alpine made mistakes and put too much pressure on the rookie.
