Alex Palou: “I felt upset and angry” after McLaren signed Piastri

IndyCar champion Alex Palou expressed his resentful feelings to the High Court when he discovered that, despite being contracted to McLaren F1's roster, he would not be joining the team. McLaren is suing Palou and his management businesses for $20.7 million (£15.43 million) for breaking his IndyCar contract with the Woking team.

He contests the amount of damages and claims that he took this action after realising that he had little chance of switching from IndyCar to McLaren's grand prix team during the term of the contract. Indianapolis 500 winner Alex Palou revealed he was “upset, worried and angry” when Oscar Piastri’s 2022 McLaren signing ended his hopes of an F1 seat. Palou said he asked his management, Monaco Increase Management, to seek clarity from McLaren CEO Zak Brown, who assured them the move wouldn’t affect his future chances. Palou first considered joining McLaren after winning his debut IndyCar title, though both parties dispute who initiated contact.
