Liam Lawson has defended Racing Bulls’ controversial strategy at the Monaco Grand Prix, where team tactics helped both drivers secure points. Starting ninth, Lawson slowed down during the race to back up the chasing pack, enabling teammate Isack Hadjar, who started fifth, to make two required pit stops and still finish in the points. Lawson finished eighth—his first points finish of the season—while defending the team’s actions.
He insisted Racing Bulls did “nothing illegal” and credited the track’s unique nature for allowing such a strategy. “We have a job to score as many points as we can,” Lawson said. “It was a very positive race from our side.” He also noted that such tactics wouldn’t work at other circuits like Barcelona. Williams used a similar strategy with Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz, drawing further scrutiny. Despite criticism, Lawson maintains the team followed all rules.
