Domenicali insists: Qatar and Abu Dhabi finales will go ahead

Stefano Domenicali has confirmed that the final two races of the 2026 Formula 1 season will take place as planned in Qatar and Abu Dhabi, despite the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Iran. Speaking during free practice at the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, the F1 CEO told Sky that the championship will follow its approved schedule, supported by the necessary security assurances. The decision is expected to spark internal debate, with several drivers—Max Verstappen among them—expressing discomfort about racing in regions under threat of attacks and marked by significant geopolitical tension.

Imola, however, remains prepared as the designated backup venue. The circuit continues its organisational work, including grandstand setup, in case a late change becomes necessary. Should F1 revert to its contingency plan, the race would be held on 6 December, with a midday start to avoid early winter sunset.
