USA chase 11th straight Presidents Cup triumph

The United States will attempt to secure an 11th consecutive Presidents Cup victory when the 16th edition begins Thursday at Medinah, where the Internationals aim to end a winless run stretching back to 1998. The Americans hold a dominant 13‑1‑1 record in the biennial event, which has never matched the drama of the Ryder Cup. International captain Geoff Ogilvy said his squad is focused on its own identity rather than drawing inspiration from Europe’s famous 2012 “Miracle at Medinah”.

US captain Brandt Snedeker admitted he cannot explain why his team thrives in the Presidents Cup yet struggles in Ryder Cups. His side features eight of the world’s top 11 players, including Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele, plus rookies Jacob Bridgeman and Jackson Koivun. The Internationals counter with Hideki Matsuyama, Tom Kim and veteran Adam Scott, supported by three rookies. Ogilvy believes team unity is stronger than ever and insists “the time is right” to challenge the Americans.
