Sultana sets sights on Asia Cup final as Bangladesh chase long‑awaited success

Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty has declared that simply reaching the Asia Cup semi‑finals is no longer enough, insisting the team are targeting a place in the final in Dubai. Bangladesh, departing on August 26, are preparing at the Sher‑e‑Bangla National Stadium before entering Group B alongside Sri Lanka, the UAE and Indonesia. Joty stressed that winning the group is crucial, as finishing first would help them avoid India in the semi‑finals, a matchup that has repeatedly halted their progress.

She highlighted strong preparation, including several practice games and two additional matches in Sri Lanka to adapt to conditions. Bangladesh open their campaign on August 31 against Indonesia, followed by Sri Lanka and the UAE. Joty believes a successful Asia Cup could build momentum for the Asian Games, where Bangladesh aim to win a medal. The team previously secured silver in 2010 and bronze in 2022, and hope improved form can fuel another podium run.
