Sharmin Sultana back for Asia Cup and Asian Games

Sharmin Sultana has been recalled to Bangladesh’s women’s squad for both the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup in Dubai and the Asian Games in Aichi‑Nagoya. The top‑order batter last featured for the national side in May against Sri Lanka and replaces Taj Nehar, who played in the recent World Cup. Chief selector Sazzad Ahmed told Cricbuzz that Nehar “failed,” prompting Sharmin’s return, while noting that opener Dilara Akhter’s struggles also influenced the decision.

Bangladesh will compete in Group B at the Asia Cup alongside Indonesia, Sri Lanka and the UAE, opening their campaign on August 31. They face Sri Lanka on September 6 and the UAE on September 8, with the final set for September 13.

Attention will then shift to the Asian Games, where Bangladesh meet China in the quarter‑final on September 17. A potential semi‑final would pit them against India or Japan, with medal matches scheduled for September 22.
