Koepka withdraws from Charles Schwab as US Open prep takes priority

Brooks Koepka’s build‑up to the 2026 US Open has taken an unexpected turn after the five‑time major champion withdrew from this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge, despite showing improved form since returning to the PGA Tour. Koepka, who is still barred from Signature Events following his exit from LIV Golf, has been competing exclusively in tier‑two tournaments and recently posted encouraging results, finishing T11 at the Myrtle Beach Classic and T14 at The CJ Cup Byron Nelson. His decision to step away for a couple of weeks is believed to be linked to workload management, given his history of hip and knee issues.

Koepka’s withdrawal also impacts the tournament field due to the terms of his reinstatement, which require two additional spots whenever he competes. With him out, alternates Lanto Griffin and Webb Simpson miss out. Koepka is now expected to return either at the Canadian Open on June 11 or directly at the US Open at Shinnecock Hills.
