Tiger Woods has declined the captaincy of the 2027 US Ryder Cup team as he steps away from all golf‑related commitments to focus on his health, the PGA of America announced. The decision follows a difficult week for the 50‑year‑old, who was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a rollover crash near his Florida home. Although a breathalyser showed no alcohol, officers deemed him impaired, and he later pleaded not guilty to misdemeanour charges linked to the incident.
Woods said he is taking time away to seek treatment, a move the PGA of America fully supports, calling him an enduring member of its family. The organisation had approached him earlier this year about leading the US team at Adare Manor, but he had not committed. Europe enters the next edition on a two‑win streak, and the United States have not claimed the trophy on European soil since 1993.
