Overton heads home as thigh injury adds to CSK’s mounting setbacks

Jamie Overton has returned home after sustaining a right thigh injury, adding to the Chennai Super Kings’ growing list of fitness concerns. The franchise confirmed the development on Wednesday, noting that the English all‑rounder will travel back to the United Kingdom for further assessment and management, though he has not been officially ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2026. Overton had been in excellent form, earning Player of the Match honours in CSK’s recent win over Lucknow Super Giants by taking three crucial wickets after LSG’s explosive start.

Across ten appearances this season, he has claimed fourteen wickets at a strong average and contributed valuable lower‑order runs. His absence leaves CSK without a like‑for‑like all‑rounder, potentially forcing a reshuffle that could bring Australian quick Spencer Johnson into the mix. Despite early struggles and persistent injuries, Chennai remain fifth with twelve points from eleven matches and control their playoff destiny.
