BCCI set to adopt MCC’s new final‑over rule for domestic season

The BCCI intends to implement a key MCC recommendation for the upcoming domestic season: the final over of the day must be completed even if a wicket falls during it. The change, outlined in a note sent to state associations, aims to prevent batting sides from delaying the arrival of a new batter late in play. The update forms part of the 2026‑27 playing‑conditions package, which also incorporates gender‑neutral language and other MCC revisions.

Among the notable proposals, deliberate front‑foot no‑balls and non‑landing deliveries will now lead to a bowler being suspended for the entire match rather than just the innings. A fielder deliberately intercepting a delivery before it reaches the striker will trigger a No Ball and Dead Ball. MCC has also removed the rare option of declaring or forfeiting in a match’s final innings. Additional tweaks cover wides, fielding positions, wicket‑keeper alignment and the use of illegal equipment, tightening clarity across formats.
