Michael Carrick is expected to be formally recommended as Manchester United’s next permanent manager after overseeing a significant revival in the club’s form, according to widespread reports on Wednesday. The forty‑four‑year‑old took charge in January following the turbulent end to Ruben Amorim’s tenure and has since guided United back into the Champions League with three matches remaining, ending a two‑season absence from the competition.
Carrick has won ten of fifteen games in all competitions, losing only twice, lifting the team from seventh to third in the Premier League. The Athletic reported that chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox will advise co‑owner Jim Ratcliffe to offer Carrick the job during an executive meeting this week.
Although United explored alternative candidates, Carrick has long been viewed as the leading contender and has received strong public backing from several players. Some bookmakers have even suspended betting on his appointment.
