Chelsea begins talks with Alonso to lead the team next season

Chelsea have opened discussions with Spanish coach Xabi Alonso as they look to appoint a new manager for next season, following the dismissal of Liam Rosenior after a sustained decline in results. Rosenior was removed in April after poor domestic and continental performances, prompting the club to accelerate their search for a long‑term solution. According to reports, the first round of talks between Chelsea and Alonso was positive, with both sides expressing interest in moving forward.

The forty‑four‑year‑old, who left his role at Real Madrid in January, is understood to be attracted by the club’s commitment to a multi‑year project and is considered one of the leading candidates for the job. Chelsea’s hierarchy view Alonso’s tactical profile and leadership qualities as well suited to the direction they hope to take. Further negotiations are expected in the coming period as the club evaluates its options for the managerial position.
