Canada turn to Desai for men’s team rebuild

Cricket Canada have appointed Monty Desai as head coach of the men’s national team, signalling a renewed push to elevate the programme’s competitiveness on the international stage. Desai arrives with more than two decades of global coaching experience, highlighted by his successful spell with Nepal, where he helped the team regain ODI status and qualify for multiple ICC events. Cricket Canada president Arvinder Khosa said the organisation’s priority is restoring national prominence through professionalism and performance, adding that Desai’s history with Associate nations makes him an ideal fit for long‑term development.

The announcement comes in a year of transition following Canada’s appearance at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where nineteen‑year‑old Yuvraj Samra made history as the youngest centurion in the tournament’s history. Desai, who has also worked with Afghanistan and across India’s domestic and franchise circuits, said he is honoured by the opportunity and aims to build a culture capable of turning potential into consistent international results.
