Charlotte Edwards backs England to shine on home soil

Charlotte Edwards is confident England can rise to the occasion as they prepare to host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup for the first time since their title‑winning campaign in 2009. Now head coach, and the captain who lifted the inaugural trophy, Edwards told Sky Sports that her team is approaching the tournament with genuine belief, despite acknowledging the strength of the global field. The prospect of playing a World Cup final at Lord’s, she said, is driving the squad daily.

England were also the first side to unveil their 15‑player group, highlighted by the selection of 18‑year‑old spinner Tilly Corteen‑Coleman, who impressed at the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup. Edwards praised her rapid rise, insisting age was never a factor and that her performances earned the call‑up. With three left‑arm spinners in the squad, Edwards sees a tactical edge as England prepare to open their campaign against Sri Lanka on 12 June.
