New Zealand produced a landmark performance in Auckland, sweeping aside 10‑man Chile 4–1 in their final home match before the World Cup. It marked the All Whites’ first victory over South American opposition. Chile, who had beaten Cape Verde days earlier, unravelled when Dario Osorio was dismissed in the 27th minute after two quick bookings. New Zealand struck immediately, with Kosta Barbarouses volleying home from a corner, followed by Elijah Just’s composed finish before halftime. Jesse Randall added a third on the hour, and substitute Ben Waine made it 4–0 in the 71st minute. Gonzalo Tapia netted a late consolation for Chile.
Earlier at Eden Park, Cape Verde came from behind to draw 1–1 with Finland before winning the penalty shootout, with goalkeeper Marcio Rosa making two decisive saves. Both sides now turn toward the World Cup, where New Zealand face Belgium, Iran and Egypt, while Cape Verde meet Spain, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.
