Feyenoord's Hwang In-beom avoids serious ankle injury, out until April

South Korea international Hwang In‑beom is expected to miss around a month after scans confirmed ligament damage in his right ankle, sustained during Feyenoord’s 2–1 win over Excelsior last Sunday. The 29‑year‑old was forced off in the 44th minute following a challenge with Noah Naujoks, leaving manager Robin van Persie concerned as he described the issue as “worrisome.”

Hwang was later seen on crutches in Rotterdam, and the Korea Football Association announced on Thursday that, while major structural damage was avoided, he will not join the national team for their March friendlies against Austria and Ivory Coast. The midfielder should return in time for South Korea’s World Cup campaign.

His absence deepens Feyenoord’s injury woes, with more than ten players already sidelined ahead of Sunday’s high‑stakes Klassieker against Ajax. The club now faces a challenging stretch without one of its most reliable midfielders.
