Kamindu Mendis completes Sri Lanka's World Cup squad

Sri Lanka officially named Kamindu Mendis in their 15-member squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup on Monday. The 27-year-old makes a swift comeback replacing the struggling Dhananjaya de Silva, seamer Pramod Madushan has also missed out. The Dasun Shanaka-led unit remains similar to the squad that faced England, with Pavan Rathnayake keeping his place after his maiden ODI century.

Kamindu’s recall is significant despite managing only 20 runs in the ILT20, though he recently scored a solid first-class hundred. His T20I record includes 540 runs at a strike rate of 124.71. Dhananjaya was omitted following a lean patch, scoring just 43 runs in three innings played this year. Matheesha Pathirana will lead the pace attack, supported by Eshan Malinga and Dushmantha Chameera.

The 2014 champions begin their tournament journey against Ireland at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium on February 8, joining a group that consists of Australia, Oman, and Zimbabwe.
