Cadillac F1 Keeps Reserve Seat Open

Cadillac’s Formula 1 entry for 2026 is taking shape, with Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas confirmed as race drivers and Colton Herta onboard as test driver. However, team principal Graeme Lowdon says the reserve seat remains undecided and the team is in no hurry to make a choice. Backed by General Motors, the squad is prioritizing talent over nationality, despite speculation that it could push for an American driver to bolster home support. “We’ll select drivers on merit.

That doesn’t mean they can’t have an American passport as well,” Lowdon explained. While fans would love to see a U.S. racer represent the team, Ferrari, Cadillac’s initial engine supplier, may also have a say in the decision. Lowdon stressed the team’s long-term vision: “You can’t just judge us on this year or next. We’re here to stay.”
