Hamilton secures his first pole position with Ferrari 

In the closing seconds of qualifying for the Chinese Formula One Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton stunned both himself and the audience by capturing his first sprint pole position for Ferrari. After finishing 10th in the season-opening race in Australia last weekend, Hamilton traveled to China. He only made a slight improvement in Shanghai, finishing fourth quickest in Friday's opening practice. Before Lando Norris's powerful McLaren took control in SQ2, he won the first sprint qualifying session.

After a mistake on his last lap, the McLaren driver's lap was canceled, giving Hamilton his chance. With less than a minute left, the seven-time world champion seized it spectacularly. Max Verstappen of Red Bull was only eighteen one-thousandths of a second behind Hamilton's record, while Oscar Piastri, Norris's teammate at McLaren, finished third. Charles Leclerc of Ferrari finished in fourth place, while George Russell of Mercedes completed the top five.
