The financial viability of the LCS has been the subject of several League of Legends reports, to which Riot Games has replied. According to three different reports published over the weekend by writer Cristopher "Montecristo" Mykles, Luis Mira of Dexerto, and Kevin Hitt of the Sports Business Journal, the LCS is allowing teams to postpone franchise fees in order to reflect the league's current economic difficulties.
The rationale behind a franchise fee deferral scheme would make some sense in the present environment, notwithstanding Riot's assurances that these rumours are untrue. Split upon split, the LCS is losing viewers, and the league's income may be falling precipitously as a result. The Sports Business Journal claims that interest would be added to any deferments made by clubs. Teams participating in leagues all across the world, such as the LCK, LEC, and LPL, would also be subject to this procedure.
