The Formula 1 sport is getting a surplus of requests to host the Grand Prix every year but the chief executive Stefano Domenicali still is surprised that Germany’s name is missing from the list after hosting F1 a few years ago. This year F1’s calendar has 23 rounds and almost half of the races will take place in Europe with the exception of Germany.
The Western European country held the last F1 round at Hockenheim in 2019 but their second venue Nürburgring has remained absent from the list for a long while now. Apparently they are struggling financially and dropped their hosting duties in 2015 and 2017 and came back in 2019 only after receiving financial support from Mercedes. Domenicali believes the country lacks interest in hosting a Grand Prix and it is surprising when they look back to the fans fervor when local idol Michael Schumacher took part in F1.
