Mercedes for the first time in this season has locked out the front row and the people all around are really happy with that. Mercedes is glad about the qualifying but Toto Wolff is not sure that they have the fastest car before the Portuguese Grand Prix on Sunday. Valtteri Bottas had finished in the least time while Lewis Hamilton will begin second in Portugal.
In tricky conditions in Portimao, along with Lewis Hamilton (who was done second fastest), Valtteri Bottas won the 17th pole of his career. This could have become too different if Max Verstappen saw an amazing lap in Q3 that was deleted after the track limits being exceeded. Also, he didn’t lose his pace on Wolff. Wolff later said that he wasn’t sure if the team had the fastest car, but they took a big step. Verstappen leads by Hamilton by 1 point, where Mercedes is at 60 points, 7 points more than Red Bull.
