Pistons lock in Thompson with $155M deal

Ausar Thompson has committed his long‑term future to the Detroit Pistons, agreeing to a fully guaranteed five‑year, $155 million rookie‑scale extension reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania. The deal follows a breakout season in which Thompson emerged as one of the NBA’s premier defenders, finishing third in the Defensive Player of the Year race and leading the league in steals. His 215 combined steals and blocks ranked third overall, reinforcing his status as a disruptive force.

Since being selected fifth in the 2023 Draft, he is one of only three players to record at least 300 steals and 150 blocks. The extension also marks a historic milestone: Ausar and his twin brother Amen Thompson are now the first siblings to each sign contracts exceeding $100 million. Together, they have secured a combined $363 million this offseason, solidifying their roles as foundational pieces for their respective franchises and shaping a new chapter in NBA family history.
