Trabzonspor turn to Thomas Reis after Cimsir’s dismissal

Trabzonspor have appointed Thomas Reis as their new head coach after dismissing Huseyin Cimsir, whose slow start and Europa League playoff collapse proved decisive. Despite a high‑profile summer window that brought Mohamed Salah, Ruslan Malinovskyi, Fabinho and Franculino to Trebisonda, the team were eliminated 5‑0 on aggregate by Ferencvaros and sit ninth in the Super Lig with two wins, two losses and a draw. Reis, who previously coached Samsunspor from 2024 to 2026, arrives familiar with Turkish football and eager to revive the club’s ambitions.

His debut came immediately in a crucial clash against Galatasaray, with Salah already on four goals and one assist in seven matches. Presented by vice‑president Zeyyat Kafkas, Reis said he accepted the job without hesitation, citing the club’s history and competitive environment. He praised Salah’s quality while stressing the need for occasional defensive effort, promising to prepare the squad quickly and restore stability after a turbulent opening month.
