Mngqithi chooses Yanga over Bafana Bafana ambitions

Manqoba Mngqithi is officially off the list of potential Bafana Bafana candidates after being unveiled as the new head coach of Young Africans. The Tanzanian giants, driven by African Club Association chairman Hersi Said, have secured the former Mamelodi Sundowns tactician as they chase CAF Champions League success.

Mngqithi arrives after leaving Golden Arrows and brings extensive continental experience from his years alongside Pitso Mosimane and later as Sundowns head coach. Speaking to SABC Sport, he said the move fulfils his desire to return to top‑level African competition, praising Yanga’s professionalism and ambition as they strengthen their squad.

He enters a fierce rivalry with Simba SC, currently led by fellow South African Steve Barker, adding extra intrigue to the Tanzanian football landscape. Yanga won last season’s league title by two points but parted ways with Pedro Gonçalves before the campaign ended.

With Mngqithi now committed elsewhere, Pitso Mosimane remains the leading contender to succeed Hugo Broos when his contract expires.
