SAFA back Mosimane for Bafana job, deal still pending

SAFA have confirmed that their National Executive Committee has approved Pitso Mosimane as the preferred candidate to replace Hugo Broos as Bafana Bafana coach, though no contract agreement is in place yet. President Danny Jordaan said several “loose ends” still need to be tied up, with a formal announcement expected next week. Mosimane would return for a third spell in charge, taking over from Broos, who led South Africa to their first‑ever World Cup knockout appearance before retiring from coaching. Bafana begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign next month, facing Guinea, Eritrea and Kenya.

Mosimane previously served as interim coach in 2006 and later took the job full‑time, overseeing key victories such as a 1‑0 win in Zambia. His second tenure included seventeen matches, though a series of draws ultimately cost him the role. SAFA now hope his experience can guide the team through a crucial new cycle.
