Are the Sixers ready to move Embiid? Simmons sparks debate

Joel Embiid’s future has suddenly become a major storyline for the upcoming NBA offseason after Bill Simmons suggested on his podcast that Philadelphia may be willing to trade its franchise center. Simmons claimed rival teams believe Embiid is available and noted the Sixers have avoided publicly committing to building around Embiid, Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. Embiid’s massive contract, which climbs from 58 million next season to 67 million in 2028-29, combined with recurring injuries, adds complexity to any long‑term decision, especially following Brown’s arrival.

Philadelphia, however, has pushed back against the idea of a breakup. Team president Mike Gansey said Embiid is energized by the trade and finally entering an offseason fully healthy. Gansey added that Brown intends to push Embiid physically and bring leadership qualities valued in Philadelphia. The Sixers hope the Embiid‑Brown pairing can end a title drought stretching back to 1983.
