Quartararo and Rins to leave Yamaha at season’s end

Yamaha have confirmed that Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins will depart the team at the end of the 2026 season, closing a significant era for the Japanese manufacturer. Quartararo, who debuted in MotoGP with Yamaha in 2019 and claimed the 2021 world title, will become Honda HRC’s lead rider in 2027 after years marked by both triumph and frustration. Yamaha’s struggles since 2022 ultimately shaped the Frenchman’s decision to move on.

Rins faces a more uncertain future, with speculation suggesting his time in MotoGP may be nearing its end. Their exit clears the way for the expected arrivals of Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura.

Yamaha executive Paolo Pavesio praised both riders, highlighting Quartararo’s eight‑year journey filled with shared milestones and Rins’ valuable experience since joining in 2024. He stressed that, despite the emotional farewell, the team remains focused on finishing the season strongly before turning the page on a new project.
