Copa Libertadores: Round of 16 draw sets stage for knockout drama

The Copa Libertadores knockout stage is officially underway after CONMEBOL confirmed the Round of 16 pairings during Friday’s draw in Luque, Paraguay. Sixteen clubs emerged from a tense and tactical group phase, and the bracket now offers a clear route toward the continent’s most coveted trophy. The standout tie is an all‑Brazilian showdown between Cruzeiro and Flamengo, two of the tournament’s leading contenders. Rosario Central’s meeting with Corinthians also promises intensity, reigniting the traditional Argentina‑Brazil rivalry.

Holders Fluminense face surprise package Independiente Rivadavia, while Palmeiras must navigate a tricky matchup against Cerro Porteño. Estudiantes La Plata versus Universidad Católica appears finely balanced, with both sides capable of advancing. The remaining fixtures include Deportes Tolima against Independiente del Valle, Mirassol versus Liga de Quito, and Platense against Coquimbo Unido.

The knockout calendar runs from August to November, culminating in a single‑match final on November 28 at a neutral venue.
