Barbados Royals will reintroduce themselves as the Barbados Tridents for the 2026 Caribbean Premier League, restoring the franchise’s original identity. The decision follows the launch of the “One Barbados” partnership between the Government of Barbados and Royals Sports Group, which owns the team. The Tridents were among the CPL’s founding franchises in 2013 and won titles in 2014 and 2019 before being renamed following the Royals’ majority acquisition in 2021.
A team statement described the three‑year partnership as part of a broader national initiative positioning the franchise as a year‑round asset, coinciding with Barbados’ sixtieth independence anniversary. The agreement also includes a preliminary plan for the government to become a minority co‑investor, pending approvals.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley said the return to the Tridents name reflects national pride and ambition. The team will resume wearing Barbados’ ultramarine, golden yellow and black, while continuing to incorporate pink and hosting a “Pink Promise” charity match.
